An independent 66 KV line from the State
utility (Punjab State Electricity Board) feeds on-site 66KV substation
having two 66/11 KV transformers each rated at maximum of 8 KVA. Five
11 KV lines feed the two substations.
A 415V network supplies power to the Fab and all other utilities which
has a connected load of 11 MW and a contract demand of 7 MVA |

The facility is supported
by three emergency generators that have a combined capacity of 3125 KVA
supporting life-safety systems, ultra Pure Water Plant, Fresh air
make-up, process exhaust, Process Cooling Water, CDA, etc.
SCL is exempted from power
cuts having been categorized for its continuous power requirement. This
ensures reliable power supply with minimal brown outs and power
outages. This is further backed-up by uninterruptible power supplies
(UPS) for all the process equipment and control and communication
systems. |

Conservation of Energy |
| |
|
Energy conservation is under constant
focus of SCL. Towards this end following measures are undertaken: |
| |
|
1. |
Maintaining power factor above the
threshold limit prescribed by PSEB to optimize capacity utilization of
transformers, cables etc.
|
|
2. |
Optimization of operations of
air-conditioning plants, selective switching-off of AHUs and sparing use
of Hot Water Generators.
|
|
3. |
Switching-off of lights and other energy
consuming equipment as and when not required.
|
|
4. |
Timely maintenance of compressors,
optimizing pressuring settings, rescheduling of operations during
non-production hours and minimizing leakages and pressure drops.
|
|
5. |
Grouping and re-adjustment of loading of
transformers and save No Load Losses.
|
|
6. |
Use of energy efficient
equipment/systems.
|
|
7. |
Conducting Energy Audits of various
installations through independent agency and initiating action for
implementation of Energy Saving recommendations.
|
|
8. |
Bringing awareness about energy saving
measures among the employees through regular discussion/interactions
etc. |
